A "cookie" is a small piece of data which a website like MagPortal.com sends to your computer. Your computer then stores this data on its hard drive. Whenever you request a page from the website which originally sent the cookie, your browser sends the cookie data back to the website so that the website can detect that you have been there before. This allows MagPortal.com to provide personalized services because it is able to recognize you as someone it has seen before. It is possible to turn off the transmission of cookies in your browser, but you will find that if you do so the personalization features of MagPortal.com will no longer work.

To enable/disable cookies in Netscape Communicator, go to the "Edit/Preferences" menu item, then select "Advanced."
